IT Briefing Paper

Hello Team,

Question: Has anyone started thinking/writing anything about their IT Briefing Paper?

I cannot get my mind wrapped around any subject(s) to write about. I was wondering if anyone else was in the same predicament as I am.

Well have a nice day/evening, Everyone!

  1. Hi ShedaSha,

I think I'm going to do my individual paper on replacing an old database with a new database system, which is a real-life experience that I am working on. However, Leon mentioned in an email that it might be a good idea to select a topic that is related to our Team Project so that you don't have to start from scratch.

Leon also provided a list of potential topics for the Individual Paper. See the attachment that I sent via email on 10/5. Here is his list:

Potential Topics for Individual IT Technology Briefing Papers (due in Session 5)

    - Develop a small size business IS system (cash registers, customer database, e-purchasing)
    - Develop a medium size business database system (more advanced database than above)
    - Develop a medium size business e-commerce system (Web, database, servers, security)
    - Converting from an older database to a newer database system
    - Converting an office network from an analog phone system to a Voice/IP phone system
    - Upgrading office software (operating system upgrade or application software upgrade)
    - Moving from an existing in-house IS architecture to a cloud computing architecture
    - Implementing a knowledge management system (KMS)
    - Moving from traditional instructor-led training (ILT) to e-learning
    - Creating a basic e-commerce sight
    - Implementing a secure server farm
    - Implementing a biometric access control system (increased security)
    - Designing a new data center
    - Moving to a “green” IS infrastructure
    - Moving an organization from a PC-based platform to an Apple Mac OS architecture
    - Adding a wireless network to an existing “wired” network
    - Implement secure networking for remote users
    - Implement digital certificates for secure document transfer
    - Implement an IT help desk
    - Implement a storage area network (SAN)
    - Implement a Cloud solution
    - Moving from IPv4 (version 4) to IPv6 (version 6)
    - Implement a secure mobile platform for your employees (iPhone, iPad, Blackberry, etc.)
    - Implement a telepresence solution for your organization
    - Implement secure IS banking solutions for a home town bank
    - Implement a patch management system (policies and procedures for patching OS & Apps)
    - Implement a high performance datacenter platform (gaming servers, database, etc.)
    - Implement a radio frequency identification system (RFID) for a warehouse
    - Implement an IS-driven robotics solution into a manufacturing or warehouse system

Note: This is just a small sampling of ideas of the top of my head, so feel free to expand this list as you wish.

Note: Unless you wish to discuss an enterprise-wide (large organization) implementation of these topics, I would stay close to a small or medium size business solution. For example; you may discuss how a small boutique business may implement an e-commerce Web site using off-the-shelf tools and software. Adjust your paper to whatever you feel most comfortable with. Remember that this individual paper is a briefing paper that you would provide to a business owner or a board of directors, whatever you feel is appropriate for your research.

Note: These topics could also be used for your team papers, so any research you do here could be applied to a larger paper or presentation later.
